Coloquio Internacional (In Spanish) - 24.09.2026 - Mexico City Dimensiones cronopolíticas en las prácticas culturales

Who controls time—and how can time itself become a site of political struggle?

Organized by CAPAS Associate Researcher Dr. Adolfo F. Mantilla in collaboration with the Museo del Templo Mayor in Mexico City, this interdisciplinary colloquium brings together six scholars and artists to explore the political dimensions of time and how they are reflected in cultural imaginaries.

At the heart of the discussion is chronopolitics: the ways in which time is organized, regulated, synchronized, and contested through political and cultural practices. Focusing in particular on Nahua communities in Mexico and the United States, the colloquium explores how understandings and experiences of time shape individual and collective life, while looking beyond conventional divisions between the pre-Hispanic, colonial, and contemporary periods.

Bringing together perspectives from different disciplines and artistic practices, the event explores how cultural narratives and imaginaries reveal the complex connections between time, history, and political life. We warmly invite everyone interested in these questions to join us for the colloquium and take part in the conversation.
