Fellow 2026-2027 Sabin Ninglekhu
Sabin Ninglekhu is an interdisciplinary researcher of Indigenous background with over 15 years of experience in activist and action research design and implementation, including participatory planning, in the areas of urban land and shelter rights, disaster governance, heritage preservation, Indigenous and social movements, and urban planning.
He is actively involved in media engagement through publications in national and international media platforms, and also serves as an editor of The Commons (www.commons-nepal.com). Additionally, he regularly co-designs and co-organises community-led workshops and public seminars as part of building a critical mass of counter-publics.
As a Nepal-based Co-PI, he recently completed a multi-year international research project titled Heritage as Placemaking: The Politics of Erasure and Solidarity in South Asia (www.heritageasplacemaking.com), funded by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond Foundation. This project was conducted in collaboration with the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies at Heidelberg University, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, and the Colombo Institute of Human Sciences in Sri Lanka. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow and a visiting research scientist for the research project "2015 Earthquakes, Disaster Governance, and Heritage-Based Reconstruction of Kathmandu Valley," which was affiliated with and funded by the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University.
