Beyond political debates and financial costs, what does “the apocalypse” mean for those actually fleeing it? The film series Migration and Borders shifts the focus from systems to individual fates, exploring the personal realities of poverty, terror, and displacement.

Movie description

Amin has kept his life story a secret for 25 years. He lives in Copenhagen as a successful academic, and his wedding to his partner is just around the corner, yet no one knows what he went through during his escape from Afghanistan. At the age of eleven, he fled his homeland to Russia, where he went into hiding for five years. From there, he made his way to Denmark with the help of people smugglers. But he has kept his true identity hidden all these years, just as the smugglers had drilled into him.

Before he gets married, he wants to confide his life story to his close friend Tobias, in the hope that this will help him overcome his trauma, reclaim his past and find himself again.

After the movie there will be a discussion with Nadja Steegmaier.
