ABOUT US
The Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS) at Heidelberg University is a transdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Studies that brings together leading scholars from around the world. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), CAPAS explores how catastrophes and end-time scenarios impact societies, individuals, and the environment. Each year, CAPAS hosts up to 15 fellows for a period of up to twelve months, offering them the freedom to pursue independent research in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting—free from everyday academic duties. Through the Käte Hamburger programme, the BMBF supports cutting-edge humanities research. CAPAS provides a platform for dialogue across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, with a special focus on apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic themes.
